Nazism is a totalitarian system
In March 23 The Reichstag met to discuss the passinf of the Enabling Law. After that hitler used his new powers to Germnany into a totalitarian state. In July, the Law Against the Establishment of Parties syayed that the Nazi Party was the only political party in Germany. Also Nazism provided for extreme nationalism which called for the unification of all German-speaking peoples into a single empire.

Adolf Hitler was the leader of Germany from 1933 to 1945. He was leader of the Nazi party and became a powerful dictator. Hitler started World War II by invading Poland and then invading many other European countries. He is also known for wanting to exterminate the Jewish people in the Holocaust.
Hitler in politics
Hitler Gets Political after the war, many in Germany felt betrayed by the German government for their sudden and unexpected surrender. The subsequent
inflation made finding a job and day-to-day living difficult for the average German citizen. In 1919, Hitler was working for an army organization in which he checked-up on burgeoning local political groups. While spying on these groups in September 1919, Hitler found one he liked. Soon after joining the group (he became the 55th member) he was leading it.

List of things that hitler did
- In April 1933, the Nazis took over local government and the police, sacked anti-Nazi teachers and professors, and set up the Gestapo, who sent to concentration camps opponents, Jews, Communists, gypsies, homosexuals, alcoholics and prostitutes . In May 1933 Hitler abolished the Trade Unions, and in July 1933 he abolished all other parties than the Nazis.
- On 23rd May 1933, Hitler forced the Reichstag to pass an Enabling Law so that any law Hitler wanted could pass without opposition. Basically Hitler could do as he pleased and no one was able to stop him. To make other politicians vote for this law Hitler circled the Reichstag with his troops to intimidate them. The law was an end to democracy and was the key to getting power legally. This is an example of Hitler using force to get what he wanted.
- All workers had to join the German Labour Front, wages fell, and strikers could be shot. All culture had to be German (Wagner) or Nazi (only approved authors could be read). Women doctors, teachers and civil servants were forced to give up their careers, and girls were forced to concentrate on the three Cs (Church, children, cooker).
- Most of all, people were not free (there was no freedom of speech). Each block of flats had a 'staircase ruler' who reported grumblers to the Gestapo.
- The 1936 Berlin Olympic Games had been handed to Berlin before the Nazis came to power but then it was the perfect opportunity for Hitler to demonstrate to the world, how efficient the Nazi Germany was. It was also the perfect opportunity for the Nazis to prove to the world how Nazi Party was powerful and to show off, as 49 countries were competing bringing with them their assorted media.

Quotes
- “The great strength of the totalitarian state is that it forces those who fear it to imitate it.”
- “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it”
- “Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.”
- "The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures.... The separate existence of the federal states will not be done away.... The number of cases in which an internal necessity exists for having recourse to such law is in itself a limited one."
― Adolf Hitler
Things that caused German totalitarian system
Key events in Hitler's rise to power
in 1929 few people would have predicted he would be Chancellor in 1933. However, economic and political events took a turn for the worse and Hitler was able to capitalize on them to maximum advantage.
The impact of the Depression on Germany
In October 1929, two significant events had a dramatic effect on Germany. On 3 October politician Gustav Stresemann died. Then on 29 October, The wall street cash began in USA. American banks called in the loans they had made to Germany. Without these loans, German industry could not operate. Factories closed and millions of workers lost their jobs.
Political, economic and social crisis of 1930-33In1932 Hitler exploited the government's problems by holding huge rallies and touring Germany, promising to restore the country's economy. The socialist elements of the party's programme were forgotten as Hitler tried to win support from German middle classes and industrialists. In the September 1930 the nazi won 107 seats, in July 1932 they won 230 and in november 1932 they dropped back to 196.

Reasons of Nazi support
- The Nazi party was anti- communists. It therefore appealed to all those who feared what communism might bring, and particularly to industrialists, who was afraid that communist government will take their businesses.
- The Nazi promised to reserve the Treaty of Versailles and restore Germany's military strength. Most importantly it won the support of Germany's armed forces.
- The promise to tackle unemployment. This promise attracted the middle class who feared of loosing jobs and who remembered the difficulties of 1923.
- Also women were attracted to the party by its emphasis on family life and self-discipline.
- Anti-Jewish campaign was highly effective. Hitler knew that people are having bad times so they need someone to blame.
- Hitler was a skilled public speaker and also his colleague, Joseph Goebbels made effective use of propaganda.
